The Rangers and Greece Athena played a taut affair on Thursday to open up Sectionals, but the Rangers eventually prevailed 4-3 after taking the lead for good in the fifth inning. The game was tied at two with The Rangers batting in the bottom of the fifth when Joseph Carroll singled off of Jake Kimble, driving in one run.
Greece Athena took an early lead in the first inning. James Sciortino doubled on a 2-1 count in the first inning, scoring one run.
Nicholas Bellone earned the win for The Rangers. He tossed seven innings, giving up three runs, ten hits, striking out seven, and walking one. Jake Kimble took the loss for Greece Athena. He went six innings, giving up four runs, seven hits, and striking out two.
The Rangers had seven hits in the game. Nicholas Dennison, Chris Carroll and Joseph Carroll each collected multiple hits for the Rangers.
Greece Athena collected ten hits. Mike Ruta and Saucke each collected multiple hits for Greece Athena. They have a very bright future as almost all the starters were underclassman.
